Next Meeting
January
21, 2006
Saturday, January 21, 2006 is the next chapter
meeting. It will be held at the Best
Western In Culpeper. Meeting will start
at 11:30. Everyone will order off the
menu. Main business at this meeting
will be the induction of new officers.
If
you have not done so, please pay your dues.
Dues must be at VASSAR by December 1st. As of this writing approximately one third
of chapter members have not paid their dues.
The next Muster Call will be sent out the
week of December 19th. It
will include pictures and notes from three different events, the November
meeting, the DAR/SAR luncheon and the Commemoration of the Battle of Great
Bridge. A Muster call will not be sent
out January 1st 2006.
COMMEMORATION
OF THE BATTLE OF GREAT BRIDGE
The commemoration will be held on Saturday, December
10, 2005 in the Depot meeting rooms. The Depot is located at the east end of East Davis Street in downtown Culpeper. Below is a schedule of activities:
9:45AM..Symbolic march from the Courthouse to the Depot
10:00AM..Dr. John Sinks presents formation of the Battalion, march to Great Bridge & Norfolk
10:25AM..Past President General Larry McClanahan presents Captain William McClanahan and the “Fighting Baptists”
10:45AM..Todd Post presents history of the 2d Virginia Regiment at Great Bridge and later battles.
Bryan Kennedy presents the Revolutionary War Continental Line Soldier
12:15PM..Powerpoint presentation of Revolutionary War memories in Culpeper
12:30PM..The role of the rifleman including a firing
demonstration
The program will be repeated commencing at 1:00PM
Ladies from the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, DAR and the Fauquier Court House Chapter, DAR are assisting greatly in putting this program together and we are most thankful to them. The Col. Fielding Lewis and Thomas Jefferson Chapters of the SAR are also supporting us.
Todd Post and Bryan Kennedy are members of the re-enactor 2d Virginia Regiment organization.
This program has received the support of the Culpeper
Department of Tourism and is on their web site. Please show your support for
this endeavor by attending.
